Assistant Costume Designer

Suggested Pre-requirements: Fundamentals of Costume, ST: Costume Design

Credits: 2 (1 for Dance Project)         Practicum Type: Advanced (letter grade)

Locations: Costume Shop, Dressing Rooms

Time Commitment: Start of semester through final dress

Responsibilities:

An assistant designer position can range from research and paperwork to designing a small group of characters. Tasks may include:

  • Creating a costume chart
    • Who wears what and when
  • Taking charge of designing costumes for a small group of characters
    • Renderings/vision board
    • Research
  • Attending:
    • At least one production meeting
    • At least one costume fitting, or fittings for any assigned characters
    • Crew watch
    • Dress rehearsals
    • Any requested check-ins

Anything Else:  This position can be tailored to the students’ skill set and availability. If the workload is light (10 or fewer hours over the semester), then the number of credits goes down to 1.
