Props Master

Suggested Pre-requirements: Any lower-level Theatre Technology courses

Credits: 2        Practicum Type: Advanced (letter grade)

Report To: Daneé Gosselin drgosselin@usnh.edu

Locations: Costume Shop, Scene Shop, Prop Room (Silver 206 D)

Time Commitment: Start of rehearsal process through closing performance

Responsibilities:

  • Creating a comprehensive list of needed props as determined by the script, director, and Scenic Designer
    • Will need to work within a given budget
  • Creation and maintenance of Prop Table(s)
    • Check with Stage Manager/TD/Director for where these can be located
  • Set Dressing
    • Furniture items, décor, things that may not be interacted directly with by actors
    • Scenic Designer takes care of much of this, so coordinate with their needs
  • Supplying rehearsal props
    • Something comparable to the final product for the actors to rehearse with. This typically happens early on in the process.
  • Checking rehearsal reports regularly for prop requests
  • Attending all production meetings, all Tech rehearsals, some regular rehearsals, and any meetings with the director and/or Scenic Designer
  • Purchasing, pulling and/or building of individual props
    • Pull first, build what can be built, purchase everything else.
    • Purchasing must be done through university channels, so you will meet with Daneé/Jessie with Amazon links when needed
      • While we are currently not able to purchase from thrift and antique stores with Department funds, these are excellent resources that should not be written off. If you have something outside of Amazon that you absolutely need, see Daneé to proceed.
  • Meeting with Daneé about costume-props
    • Generally, anything fabric or clothing related

Anything Else: Each show has a props freeze date, where no additional props can be asked for by directors or designers. If it is not clear when this date is, ask us to clarify.

It is helpful to check out the Makerspace in D&M, where there are laser cutters, 3D printers, etc.

It is the responsibility of the Props Master to arrange meetings when needed and not otherwise scheduled.
