Calling All Interested Directors: Almost Maine

Overview: Our production of Almost Maine will be directed by a small team of students who will be overseen by me, Jessie (Director of Theatre). Each director will be responsible for 1-3 scenes. Almost Maine will perform March 4-6 in the Smith Recital Hall, rehearsals will begin the first week of Spring semester. Interested directors should read this whole post and send a pitch in by end of day November 20, 2026. Your pitch can be shared in the body of your email or as a linked attachment. A scene breakdown and link to a full script are included below for your convenience. *Your pitch does not have to be long (a well thought out paragraph/group of bulleted answers/ or page would all work)

Pitch should include:

  • Email subject line: Almost Maine directing pitch
  • Which scenes you are interested in directing (Any and all of them? Specific scenes? If you are more interested in some than others—let me know)
    • The same person will direct the prologue/interlogue/& epilogue—since they are one story—I am considering them together as a scene
  • Why you are interested in this opportunity? (A sentence or paragraph at most)
  • Do you have any specific ideas you’d like to share? Please don’t include specific thoughts on casting—but you can mention a concept for a scene, production element, staging moment, etc.
    • If you have lots of ideas: pick three to share (no more than three please)
    • If you don’t have specific ideas—this question is optional and not required
  • Any known evening scheduling conflicts for late January-early March, Spring 2027.
    • Are you also planning on auditioning? (Auditioning for Almost Maine & The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is allowed even if you’ve submitted a pitch)

Deadline: send via email to jmchapman@plymouth.edu by end of day October 20th. Successful pitches will be notified on Monday 11/23 and will meet prior to auditions (auditions TBA soon—but they will be at the end of the semester). Final decisions about who is directing which scene—will be announced with casting at the end of the semester, to allow students maximum flexibility with auditioning and pitching.

Questions? Concerns? Want to chat with someone before you write your pitch? Stop by Jessie’s office: Silver 328

EPILOGUE

PLACE Various locales in Almost, Maine, a small town in far Northern Maine that isn’t actually a town and that doesn’t quite exist. TIME Not too long ago-or maybe a long time agoon a cold, clear, moonless, slightly surreal Friday night in the middle of the deepest part of a Northern Maine winter.
