Theatre for All High School Students

Each workshop is a two-week experience that includes five three-hour sessions. Plymouth State Theatre offers four different workshops covering varying aspects of performance, skill, theatre crafts, and theatre technology. All workshops will be presented in the Silver Center for the Arts in the theatres, studios, shops, and lab spaces.

PANTHER ACT: Live Performance

Join the troupe! Director Fran Page guides participants through the process of creating art without a script. Learn character development, improvisation, and sharpen your acting skills. This workshop will culminate in a performance with an invited audience in the Cheney Studio Theatre at the Silver Center for the Arts. Sessions are on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

CLOWNING & COMBAT: The Arts of Fighting and Farce Onstage

Jessie Chapman leads participants through the practice and exercise of physical acting with an emphasis on the extreme. Slapsick, farce, and physical humor are studied in rotation with essential stage-combat techniques, often with a classical or even Shakespearean twist. Join Jessie, then make forever friends by beating them up! Sessions are on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

COSTUMES, MAKEUP, & MAGIC: Fantasy & Illusion for Characters

Learn the craft and techniques for costuming and makeup onstage. Join Danee Gosselin in a fully equipped theatrical costume shop with bountilful storage of costumes, costume props, makeup and many other resources. This workshop will cover aspects of design and construction of costumes and will delve deeply into the specifics of a range of makeup techniques and purposes.

THE LIGHT FANTASTIC: Telling Stories with Lighting and Projections

Join Matt Kizer and explore obscure and mysterious techniques involving light and illusion. Do things live that you didn’t think were possible onstage. Is that a hologram, or is it something else? Explore the technology, the equipment, the software, and the art. All ranges of technical ability are welcome; this workshop can make great use of anyone whether their talents lean towards performance, programming, art, or anything else.
